AGRICULTURE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION UNIT (APIU)

“Agriculture Reform Support” Project as a non-profit state institution was established in September 4 1997 by Order N 320 of the RA Ministry of Agriculture. In July 27, 1998 it was restructured to "Agricultural Reform Support Project Implementation Unit" state close joint company according to joint protocol N 1 of the RA Ministry of Finance and Economics and the RA Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the RA Government Decree N 765, dated December 22 1999, "Agricultural Reform Support Project Implementation Unit" state close joint company was dissolved and "Agricultural Reform Support Project Implementation Unit" state institution was established.

In 2011 "Agricultural Reform Support Project Implementation Unit" state institution was renamed to "Agriculture Project Implementation Unit" state agency according to the RA Government decree N 355.

All financial resources, provided according to the credit agreements signed between the Republic of Armenia and International Development Agency, are being included in the state budget of the RA Government as of years and source of financing.  Different bank accounts are opened for each project financing source. Starting from October 2011 all bank accounts are transferred to the treasury department of the RA Ministry of Finance.

Regular Working Meeting

A working meeting took place in “Agriculture Project Implementation Unit” (Agriculture PIU) SA on the works being organized and implemented under the “Community pasture/livestock management system” component of the second “Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness” (CARMAC2) project, in which also Marz Support Team (MST) employees participated.   

During the meeting issues on cooperative annual working plan and draft budget, monthly reports, control over financial flows were discussed.

At the end of the meeting a discussion on the above mentioned issues, proposals for their solutions, as well as measures for more efficient implementation of the project took place.

Minister of Agriculture Pays a Working Visit to the RA Lori marz

RA Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan and the “Agriculture PIU” SA Director Gagik Khachatryan paid a working visit to Lori marz the other day. Their first visit was to Saramej community, where they met with members of the cooperative established under the “Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness” (CARMAC) project.   The Minister was also accompanied by the head of Lori marz Artur Nalbandyan. Here the Minister was informed that due to the CARMAC project the pasture watering problem is solved; the cooperative was recently provided with a new tractor of Belarus production, seed drill, cultivator and other agricultural machinery, which will significantly facilitate agricultural works. When learning that the number of the cooperative cattle heads is 470 the Minister ensured that the Project would enable to increase not only the number of animal heads, but also meat and milk yield.

Seminar on Food Safety

A two-day seminar on “Bases for Establishing Food Safety Management System” was held from May 19-20 in the hotel “Congress”. The seminar was organized by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the winning beneficiaries of 14 projects in the 1st round of “Value chain” Component of the second “Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness” (CARMAC2) project implemented by “Agriculture PIU” SA.  WB CARMAC project TTL Arusyak Alaverdyan, “Agriculture PIU” SA Director Gagik Khachatryan, “Value Chain development” Component Coordinator Vahan Ghukasyan, Food safety consultant George Hovhannisyan and Chief specialist Sona Tsarukyan participated in the seminar.  

The training was held by the IFC Consultants Ara Karapetyan and Gyulnara Suranchieva. The objective was to support introduce efficient food safety systems in the mentioned companies, allow modernize their technologies and equipment...[more]

Visit to Geghamavan and Ddmashen Communities of the RA Gegharkunik marz

On May 13, 2016 FAO expert assisting the country in partnership with WB Turi Fileccia and WB expert Steve Goss, “Agriculture PIU” SA “Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness” (CARMAC) project “Community pasture/livestock management system” Component Coordinator Karen Torosyan and Consultant Gagik Tovmasyan paid a visit to Geghamavan and Ddmashen communities of the RA Gegharkunik marz.

The objective of the visit was to get acquainted with the results of degraded pasture rehabilitation works implemented under the CARMAC project and financed by the Global Environment Fund (GEF). The following environmental protection and rehabilitation measures have been undertaken on the site: destoning, shrub cutting, raking, reseeding, fertilization etc.

Rehabilitation measures were implemented on 5 ha degraded land in Geghamavan community one year ago. The specialists observed the area and...[more]

Minister of Agriculture Holds Conference in Gegharkunik marz

Marz visits by the RA Minister of Agriculture are continuing. Today the Minister paid a working visit to Gegharkunik marz, where he held a conference in order to sum up the previous year indicators and define the priority activities of current year. Gegharkunik marz mayor Rafik Grigoryan, “Agriculture PIU” SA Director Gagik Khachatryan, “Hayantar” SNCO Director Martun Matevosyan, community mayors and farmers participated in the conference.  

“Previous year was very favourable for agriculture sector: gross product increase of the sector amounted to 11.7%; for the first time the value of agricultural product exceeded AMD 1 trillion threshold, and the volume of Gegharkunik marz in this whole was significant – about 19% or AMD191 billion gross product. Gegharkunik marz has significantly contributed in agriculture development of the country: this is a really serious indicator”, mentioned Mr Karapetyan.
